Marvel’s Avengers Shows Off Spider-Man In New Trailer

Marvel’s Avengers is about to get even bigger. On November 30, 2021, the game will introduce Spider-Man as its tenth playable hero. Here’s how Spidey will look when he makes his big debut.

– ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW –

You’ll notice that this isn’t the Spider-Man who appears in the PlayStation series from Sony and Insomniac Games. Crystal Dynamics present us with a fresh if familiar interpretation of the Marvel icon, with a new voice actor bringing Peter Parker to life.

The trailer does a great job in showing off the assembled Avengers cast. In the past year we’ve seen 4 new characters added including Kate Bishop, Hawkeye, Black Panther, and now Spider-Man.

There’s no gameplay footage just yet though it’s not hard to imagine how Spidey will perform, bringing together agile melee combat with ranged web attacks.

Here’s what to expect when Spider-Man arrives:

The iconic web slinger Spider-Man will come exclusively to PlayStation players in the November 30 update along with the Spider-Man: With Great Power Hero Event! You’ll experience Spider-Man’s story through unlockable challenges woven throughout the Avengers Initiative. Here’s a quick taste of his journey in Marvel’s Avengers! Peter Parker uncovers AIM’s new plan to acquire technology that could make their Synthoid army unstoppable and total domination inevitable. He must partner with the Avengers to stop this looming threat, and forms a tentative friendship with Ms. Marvel and Black Widow while keeping his identity hidden. As a Hero accustomed to working solo, he struggles with the new dynamics of working with a team. Will he join up full time with the Avengers, or stay independent in his fight against AIM?

You’ll note that there’s no mention of a new villain. Crystal has been clear in labelling this a “Hero Event” instead of an expansion, meaning that we probably won’t see any new locations, enemies, or other gameplay content.

In case you forgot, Spider-Man will be exclusive to the PS4 and PS5 versions of Marvel’s Avengers. If you’re playing on PC, Xbox One, or Xbox Series X|S then bad luck!

November 30th will also see the arrival of the new Klaw raid. The developers have also detailed some upcoming changes to various systems and mechanics in Marvel’s Avengers.

‘Spider-Man’ Writer Says Aunt May Was Almost Too Wrinkly To Animate

Dan Slott worked with Insomniac Games to bring Spider-Man to life, but one character was nearly too difficult to include.

Aunt May has always been a critical part of Peter Parker’s story and why he does what he does. However, she nearly didn’t make it into the Spider-Man video game. This is because her older features were more difficult to animate.

Speaking with Gamesradar, Dan Slott, a Spider-Man comic writer, spoke about his time helping bring the video game version together. He said, “They were telling me the reality of it; according to them, old characters – wrinkly characters – to make them look good and realistic, it takes a big amount of work. Equal to what they could use to create five other characters.”

Slott was adamant that Aunt May featured in Spider-Man. Eventually, they arrived at a compromise, with Slott saying “‘Look, Marisa Tomei isn’t that old. Aunt May doesn’t have to be super wrinkly; she can be less wrinkly.” Marisa Tomei plays Aunt May in the Tom Holland Spider-Man films, and she is far younger than any other incarnation of the character. It seems Insomniac decided to go this route in the end, as the Aunt May featured in the game is far younger than the one featured in the Tobey McGuire Spider-Man films and even in Slott’s comics.

Last month, a graphic designer decided to use the Spider-Man game to recreate three movie posters released starring the web-slinger. One comes from Tobey McGuire’s stint, one from Andrew Garfield’s, and another from Tom Holland. All three posters looked very similar to the originals and were created entirely using in-game images combined with the skilful use of photoshop.

In other news, a new trailer for Darkest Dungeon 2 shows new 3D gameplay and animations coming with the sequel.
